| Oct 11th, 2009 While baseball
bettors are checking the Denver
weather for the Rockies hosting the Phillies, it’s time
for the official betting preview of the Colts and Titans.
The NBC Sunday night football game sees Indianapolis
-4.5 at Bodog yet 3.5 at SportsBook so there are serious line movement and middling
opportunities for line shoppers.
It’s a battle of an undefeated straight up team at a
winless one. The Colts are 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread. Tennessee
is 0-4 straight up, 1-3 against the spread going over 3-of-4.
The Colts are averaging a stunning 9.6 yards per pass
attempt to teams that normally allow just 7.5. Even without Bob Sanders, who may
play tonight, the Colts are allowing 4.0 yards per rush to teams normally
getting 4.4 and 5.0 yards per pass to 6.0. Overall they are holding opponents
to .7 yards per play below their normal average.
The Titans are greatly outplaying their record. They
average 5.5 yards per rush to teams normally getting 4.4 and 5.7 yards per play
to 5.4.
On defense they allow a miniscule 2.8 yards per rush to
teams normally getting 4.0 and hold foes to .2 yards per play below their
normal average.
The Titans are expected to use the wildcat formation with
Vince Young. While elite handicappers warn that rankings
are not as important as ratings, note that the Titans are ranked dead last in
the NFL in pass defense and they face the offense ranked first.
This production is despite losing No. 2 receiver Anthony
Gonzalez in the opening week. Revenge could be on the mind of the Colts as
they’ve won 13 straight games in the regular season. Their last loss was at Nashville.
Tennessee
has won 3-of-5 straight up in the series and the Colts last win was in last
season’s finale, a game that meant as much as a preseason
contest to each team.
Against the spread records: The Colts are 5-12 to the AFC
South and 1-6 off an straight up win of 14 or more and 1-6 after allowing 90
yards rushing last game.
The Titans are 8-0 as an underdog of 3.5-10, but 2-10 when
getting more than 250 yards passing last game. The Titans are 5-1 in the
series.
