| Nov 14th, 2009 The boxing odds
between Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao and Miguel Angel “Junito” Cotto are hotter
than the Carrie Prejean sextape stream, but Matt Rivers is more scorching than
both.
I don’t care how bad Ralph Friedgen’s 2-7
Terrapins have been. I don’t care if Maryland
is without their starting quarterback in Chris Turner. I don’t care if Virginia
Tech’s defense is lights out.
This number is too much. Have you seen Tyrod Taylor and that Tech offense
recently? They have been atrocious. East Carolina’s
defense just looked like the Baltimore Ravens against the Hokies.
Ryan Williams has been able to run the ball all season long and is extremely
legitimate but when you have no passing game and continue to feed a back then
you can figure the game will be shortened with this running game as the clock
continues to wind.
Frank Beamer’s squad reached something like number five in the polls a month or
so ago and then bam. They went to Georgia Tech and got beaten up. Don’t
let the five point loss, 28-23, fool you as that was an ass-kicking. 12 days
later with a lot of time to prepare the offense was a deer in headlights at
home in the outright loss against North Carolina
as the 17 point chalk. Then last week they eked out in horrifically ugly
fashion the 16-3 win against the Pirates.
Virginia Tech now goes to College Park
against a Maryland team that has
certainly struggled immensely this season. I’m not saying that we are going to
see a 180 from the home turtle, especially if we don’t have Turner calling the
signals, but a bad offense laying such a number on the road is just silly. Plus
don’t think that the Terps don’t have any talent. Sure it’s not like during the
good times but there are still some athletes in this program, just ask CJ
Spiller and Clemson who came to Maryland
earlier in the season as the 12 ½ point favorite and left as a loser.
Maryland probably won’t score a
ton against Tech but in the end this number is just way too much and certainly
worth a play.
Can you say 21-10? I can.
