There are two games on the NBA’s playoff schedule for Monday, with Boston at
Cleveland and San Antonio at Phoenix. The Cavaliers came back from a halftime
deficit to grab a 101-93 Game 1 win over the Celtics on Saturday afternoon. LeBron James led the way for Cleveland with 35 points in
that contest, while Rajon Rondo picked up 27 points
and 12 assists in a losing cause for Boston. The Spurs and Suns will be getting
their Western Conference semifinal set underway on Monday; San Antonio knocked
out the Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs, while Phoenix is coming
off a first-round victory over the Blazers.

The American League schedule has six games for Monday: Toronto at Cleveland,
the Angels at Boston, Kansas City at the White Sox, Detroit at Minnesota, Texas
at Oakland, and Baltimore at the Yankees. The Orioles will send Jeremy Guthrie
(0-3, 4.70 ERA) to the mound in that last contest as he searches for his
first win of the season; righthander Guthrie gave up
six earned runs over 4 2-3 innings in a loss to the Yankees last time out. New
York will counter with CC Sabathia (3-1, 3.12 ERA);
lefthander Sabathia beat the Orioles in his last trip
to the mound, surrendering three earned runs in his 7 2-3
innings.
Meanwhile, there are just four games on the National League’s schedule for
Monday, with St. Louis at Philadelphia, the Mets at Cincinnati, Arizona at
Houston, and Colorado at San Diego. Ubaldo Jimenez
(5-0, 0.79 ERA) will take on Kevin Correia (4-1, 3.86
ERA) in that Rockies/Padres matchup. Righthander
Jimenez picked up his fifth straight win last time out, blanking the D-Backs on
just two hits over six innings of work. Righthander Correia is coming off a win over the Marlins in his last
trip to the mound, allowing four runs over his five innings.
Taking a trip around the rink . . .
Finally, there are two NHL playoff games on Monday night, with Philadelphia at
Boston and Vancouver at Chicago. The Bruins got an overtime goal from Marc Savard on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 5-4 win
over the Flyers in Game 1 of that Eastern Conference semifinal series. Boston,
though, lost forward Marco Sturm indefinitely to a knee injury. The Canucks
opened their Western Conference semifinal series with a convincing 5-1 win over
the Blackhawks on Saturday night. Roberto Luongo
stopped 36 of 37 Chicago shots in that victory, while Antti
Niemi was pulled for the Hawks after allowing five
goals on 25 shots
