Matt Rivers has a big MLB winning sports pick Friday is on the Pirates +260 against the Chicago Cubs according to the MLB baseball odds.
Certainly Jeff Karstens and the Pirates should not go to Busch and beat a beast in Chris Carpenter and the Cardinals, I understand that. An upset does not occur all that often between these mismatched teams but the Redbirds did not just look very good at Citi Field against what was a struggling Mets club and with Albert Pujols and the team as a whole limping back home things are not just going to do a 180.
Carpenter is great and should minimize much but I would not be all that surprised to see Karstens hold his own against Tony LaRussa’s club. St. Louis has now dropped five of seven and they have done so in pretty poor fashion as the offense has been listless a lot of the time and overall the Cards have been rather underachieving and mediocre and not as good as they probably were expected to be. When you look at their three top pitchers in Carpenter, Wainnwright and Garcia and how good they have been and then how this St. Louis team has not been all that I can’t help but back this dog because there has just been something that is not right with this team.
I understand that St. Louis is still a very good club and one that should beat out the Reds and win the NL Central but this team is just not dominating of late and Carpenter, who is awesome, is not as dominant as his teammate in Adam Wainwright right now. I could see Carpenter give up a few knocks to a Buccos squad that just surprisingly took the series in Coors against the Rockies.
The Pirates are certainly behind the eight ball from the get go in this thing but I’m just not all that scared by the Cards right now and I’ll take my chances taking back this monster price.
The pick: Pittsburgh +260 at Bodog
