Oddsmaker Struggles to Keep Up With NFL Betting Syndicates
Aug 15th, 2010

NFL preseason odds have been almost too easy for professional bettors. Not only did the greatest NFL service in history GodsTips have a windfall profit the last 48 hours, but the pro gamblers at ScoresOddsPicks have already raked in the bucks for clients.

There are just four NFL preseason games on Sunday, but they both feature teams vying for playoff spots this season—maybe even division titles. First, the San Francisco 49ers pay a visit to the Indianapolis Colts. Then, the Cincinnati Bengals host the Denver Broncos.

Oh ScoresOddsPicks did lose a pick Sunday. They just went 2-1. That makes it 11-4 in the NFL preseason already.

Here is what all clients got, unlocked with their pass code.

San Francisco 49ers (-3) at Indianapolis Colts – 12:00 p.m. ET

This game will go over and over early. Normally Peyton Manning does not throw much in the preseason, but we were assured by reliable sources, he will toss “a minimum of 10 passes” in this game. The Colts will probably throw “close to 40 times” says the source.

The Colts hit the field for the first time since losing the Super Bowl. As is usually the case in Indianapolis, there was little transition during the offseason; a few free agents left, the Colts reloaded through the draft, and Peyton Manning is still around to guide the ship. The depth at the offensive skill positions has reached the point of absurdity. Even when the back-ups come pouring in, the Colts should still score points—assuming the quarterbacks don’t kill them. After Peyton Manning sits, things get dicey.

Also, look for new life from David Carr. The Colts don’t have much depth on defense and when Carr has extra time, he thrives.

The 49ers are being touted as potential NFC West champions this year. The “D” was excellent in 2009 and promises to deliver more of the same this season. On the other side of the ball, the team is hoping for steadier play from quarterback Alex Smith and the offensive line. Two rookies, Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis, were picked to help the latter.

Indy has the more polished team. The barrage of playmaking receivers should help the Colts roll up points once the secondary defense rolls out for San Fran. The Niners also don’t have much depth on offense, so they’ll struggle even against the Colts’ defensive back-ups—especially since Indy largely relies on a “system defense” that can function without a few of its better players. Bet on the Colts and collect on the total early and enjoy.

The picks: Indianapolis and over

Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals (-3) – 6:00 p.m. ET

“As bad as the Bengals looked last week, they are approaching this game with as much intensity as I’ve ever seen for a preseason game,” says our source close to the Bengals.

Carson Palmer has a big chip on his shoulder and isn’t happy about the humilation on national TV.

The Bengals are playing their second preseason game after losing the Hall of Fame game 16-7 to the Dallas Cowboys. The Bengals looked brutal on offense, failing to score until the fourth quarter. The running game is non-existent and the team will be anxious to see more from Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott this time around. The “D” played quite well, however, limiting the explosive Cowboys to just 16 points.

Cincinnati is deep at WR. The biggest addition was not T.O. but Jordan Shipley.

Though he won’t start this season, Tim Tebow will probably be the center of attention on Sunday. The Florida Gator legend will make his pro debut, entering as either the second or third quarterback once Kyle Orton sits. The Broncos will be severely limited on both sides of the ball, however. Running back has been bitten by the injury bug as Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno are banged up, so Lance Ball is expected to start. Rookie receiver Demaryius Thomas has an aggravated foot. Defensively, Denver lost its best pass rusher in Elvis Dumervil thanks to a pec injury.

Given the rash of injuries Denver has already suffered, the starters will probably be in and out very quickly. The third unit could be on sooner than later to keep everyone else protected. That should give Cincy a big leg up. Pick the Bengals.

The pick: Cincinnati
